Accessibility
CLAIMD is built to be used on a phone, outdoors, with one hand and one bar of signal. It should also work with a screen reader, a keyboard, a switch, zoom at 200 percent and reduced motion. This page says what we do about that and what to do if something gets in your way.

The standard we build to
Every page of claimd.au and the CLAIMD app is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is the same standard Australian government services are held to. We test each release against it with automated checks (axe and Lighthouse) and by hand with a keyboard and a screen reader before it goes live.
What is in place
Every button and link is at least 44 pixels tall, so it works with a thumb.
Colour is never the only signal: an overdue date is red and says overdue, a passed check has a tick and a word.
Text contrast meets AA on the navy and paper backgrounds, including in bright light.
Everything works with a keyboard alone: Tab moves through the page in reading order and the focus is always visible.
Headings, landmarks and form labels are set so a screen reader can announce where you are and what each field is for. Errors are read out beside the field they belong to.
If your device asks for reduced motion, the site turns its animation off.
The site works at 200 percent zoom and on a 320 pixel wide screen without sideways scrolling.
There are no time limits on filling in a claim: it saves as you go and you can come back by text link.
What we know falls short
The claim documents CLAIMD produces are PDFs. They are made from tagged HTML, but we have not yet had them independently tested with a screen reader. If you need the content of a claim in another form, email us and a person will provide it.
Nothing else is known to fall short at the date above. When we find something, it is listed here until it is fixed.
If something gets in your way
Email support@claimd.au and say what you were trying to do and what happened. A person reads every message and we reply within 2 business days. If a part of the site stops you from building or serving a claim, tell us and we will get it done with you another way, at no extra cost, so the deadline is not missed.
Telling us about a problem
If you are not satisfied with how we handled an accessibility problem, our complaints page explains what happens next. You can also complain to the Australian Human Rights Commission, which handles complaints under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
When this statement was last checked
